We Proudly Serve the Pets of Fishtown, PA, and Beyond

At The Pet Mechanic, we get a ton of interesting questions from pet parents. Below are some common FAQs that might help answer any questions or concerns.

What are the hospitals hours?

The Pet Mechanic Fishtown is open from 9:00 am – 7:00 pm Monday through Friday. We are open from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm every Saturday.

Are you an emergency hospital?

We are not a 24/7 emergency facility; however, we do accommodate urgent care cases on an individual basis. If you believe your pet requires prompt attention, please call our office at (267) 519-0387, and we will do our best to assist you.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, all major credit cards, and CareCredit. Unfortunately, we are unable to process personal checks.

Do you offer payment plans?

Payment is required at the time of service in order to keep our prices affordable and our hospitals stocked with needed medications. We do not offer payment plans, but we accept CareCredit. CareCredit is an outside organization that offers different payment options that help spread out your total cost over time.

What kind of pets do you treat?

At this time, we treat cats and dogs only.

Do I need to make an appointment?

Yes, in order to keep our waiting rooms safe and respect everyone’s time, our veterinarians see patients by appointment only. If you feel your pet needs veterinary care and you have not scheduled an appointment previously, please give us a call at (267) 519-0387 so we can assist you and your pet with an urgent care evaluation.

Do you reserve space for same-day appointments?

We do our best to accommodate urgent needs as our schedule permits. If you believe your pet requires same-day attention, we recommend calling the office to confirm our availability so we can address the issue promptly.

Do you offer boarding, grooming, or daycare?

The Pet Mechanic is currently only available for direct medicinal care.

Do I have to vaccinate my pet?

Pennsylvania requires that your cat or dog is vaccinated for Rabies, as this is a matter of public safety. If your pet were to bite someone or another animal, they are required to quarantine, and the type of quarantine is based on their vaccination status. Fines may also be incurred if your pet is not properly vaccinated for Rabies. Other vaccines are considered either core or elective.

My pet had the same problem two months ago, can’t I just get the same medication?

While we’d love to minimize the amount of time your pet needs to be at the hospital, our doctors are often required to see your pet again for recurring issues if enough time has passed. This is to ensure that there are no developments in your pet’s health that need added attention. Just as with doctors of human medicine, prescriptions are a closely regulated and tracked process, and we always need to be sure your little one is as safe as possible.
